The Library of the Banco de España specialises in economics, and in monetary and banking topics in particular. Its collection also covers related fields and sciences such as economic history, statistics, etc.
The Library's collection comprises nearly 350,000 works, ranging from books, brochures and documents of international organisations to periodical publications, representing some 4,700 reviews and journals, of which 3,700 remain in circulation. Complete collections of a large number of periodicals first published in the 19th century. Some of these publications are on microfiches and microfilms, numbering 57,000 and 7,000, respectively. The Library also has other special collections and formats.
The bibliographic database, which can currently be accessed via the ALEPH program, lists 183,000 titles, and can be consulted using four computer terminals in the reading room. Collections dating from before 1986 are listed in a traditional file card system, although older, frequently used collections are also found in the computerised catalogue.

The Library is open to the public Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 17:30, except in Easter Week, San Isidro Week, the month of August and over Christmas, when it is open from 8:30 to 14:00.
