CHAPTERS 11 TO 14. STATISTICS ON GENERAL GOVERNMENT AND ITS SUB-SECTORS

The total number of tables included in these chapters has been reduced from 62 in previous editions to 50, following the revision presented here. The 12 removed tables are disseminated in the Banco de España publication Financial Accounts of the Spanish Economy, which is referred to in these pages (with links, in the case of the electronic edition). As a result of this revision, Chapters 11 (general government), 12 (central government and social security funds), 13 [regional (autonomous) governments] and 14 (local governments) are now structured in the manner indicated in the introductory notes to each. In short, a distinction has been made between:

  1. Information compiled by the Banco de España within the framework of the National Statistics Plan, namely: a) statistics within the scope of the excessive deficit procedure (EDP) and supplementary information, the only statistics disseminated in these chapters, which also include notes to the tables and b) the general government financial accounts, which are disseminated in Chapter II of the Financial Accounts of the Spanish Economy, a publication referred to in the tables mentioned.
  2. Information not compiled by the Banco de España, such as non-financial accounts for general government, which are basically the responsibility of the IGAE (National Audit Office) and also of the INE. This information is not disseminated in the Boletín Estadístico but is also referred to in the tables mentioned. In addition, the Banco de España compiles a broad summary of this block of information, indicating the original sources, which it publishes in Chapter I of the Financial Accounts of the Spanish Economy. There are links to that publication in the electronic edition of this bulletin.
