RELEASE CALENDAR FOR STATISTICAL OPERATIONS

Since end-May 2005, the release calendar for statistical operations whose source is the Banco de España has begun to be disseminated at www.bde.es. The calendar groups operations in terms of the field which acts as a basis for them and presentation is in the form of a system of menus that provides access to each of the statistics.

CHAPTER 17. CUSTOMS STATISTICS

The Customs and Excise Department of the State Tax Revenue Service has revised the foreign trade statistics from January 2000. As a result, the series breaking down foreign trade by product included in Tables 17.2 and 17.4 have been modified. These series have also been modified in periods prior to January 2000, on the basis of information disseminated by the Ministry of Economy and Finance. Moreover, the "European Union 25" aggregate has been included for the first time in Tables 17.3 and 17.5, which give a geographical breakdown of foreign trade. Finally, the foreign trade Unit Value Indices (Tables 17.6 and 17.7) have been revised. They are now compiled using base year 2000 (hitherto, base year 1995 was used), and are calculated as chained Paasche indices, as opposed to the fixed-base ones previously used. The aforementioned source gives a fuller reference to the scope of this revision work.

CHAPTER 19. EXCHANGE RATES AND COMPETITIVENESS INDEX

Three new tables have been introduced (19.2, 19.3 and 19.4) to supplement the information contained in Table 19.1 on the currencies for which the European Central Bank publishes reference exchange rates. As a result, the Tables 19.2 to 19.4 in previous editions have been renumbered 19.5, 19.6 and 19.7, respectively.
