The euro coins are also produced according to advanced technical specifications that make counterfeiting extremely difficult and easy to detect.

Particular care has been taken to include security features on the EUR 1 and EUR 2 coins.

The EUR 1 and EUR 2 coins feature a two-colour design made possible by the use of bi-metal technology, which, along with the lettering around the edge of the EUR 2 coin, makes them more difficult to counterfeit. The euro coins incorporate the safest machine-readable characteristics and can be used in vending machines throughout the euro area, irrespective of the Member State which issued them.
